Exploring Big Bend National Park With Kids

Adventures in South Texas' Big Bend

Big Bend National Park, aptly named because of its location at the bend of the Rio Grande River, includes over 800,00 acres of land. Within the park, visitors will find the beauty of the deep canyons, majestic Chisos Mountains, desolate desert, and sporadic woodland that make Big Bend truly unique. While most will want to steer clear of the scorching Summer months, visitors in Spring, Winter, and Fall will love exploring this slice of land on the border of Mexico.

Big Bend National Park: A GORGEOUS DESTINATION in Southern Texas.

Our family was able to visit Big Bend National Park for the first time on our New Years 2021 RV Road Trip. Exploring this amazing national park in South Texas was an incredible opportunity for us as we drove through Texas on our way to Florida. It was a bit of a detour for us to get there on this trip, but we decided that seeing this park in the winter was the ideal timeframe for a visit. We were all so glad that we included Big Bend on our itinerary, and we enjoyed an absolutely gorgeous day there, driving from one end of the park to the other, taking in all the different areas of the mountains and basin. The highlight of our day was our hike through the spectacular Santa Elena Canyon, which took us up along the Rio Grande River, right on the edge of the Mexico border.

Right across the canyon, you will see the Mexico Border!
