One Glorious Day In Indiana Dunes National Park

Family Fun In Indiana Dunes

Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes National Park, one of the United States’ newest national parks, has a great deal to offer its visitors. Whether you enjoy hiking along the trails within the park and over the dunes, exploring the wetlands and sandy beaches, or taking in the beauty of the streams and prairies, adventures abound. This park is just a short drive (1 hour) from Chicago.

During our Summer 2020 RV Road Trip, following our time in Chicago, Illinois, our family drove an hour and a half to Indiana Dunes National Park, and arrived in the evening. During our time in Indiana Dunes, we stayed at the Indiana Dunes State Park Campground, ideally located for the next day’s adventure. That evening, we played some games and grilled some dinner, and listened to the rain as we slept that night. Listening to the rain while sleeping in the RV is one of our favorite things about life on the road!

The next morning, our family headed out first-thing to complete the “3 Dune Challenge” hike in the park, to Mount Tom, Mount Holden, and Mount Jackson. This hike was a difficult scramble up giant sand dunes, but we all were able to hang, and finished the challenge in no time. In addition, we enjoyed a visit the visitor center in the park.
