Visiting Cuyahoga Valley National Park With Kids

Ohio's National Park Gem

Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley National Park follows the Cuyahoga River for over 22 miles, winding along a huge range of habitats, including grasslands, prairies, wetlands, and ravines, and also serving as home to a huge variety of bird, fish, reptile and deer. The Cuyahoga Valley protects the remains of the Ohio and Erie Canal, once a transportation route in the 1800’s for commerce through the wilderness. Any visitor will find peace, solace, and gorgeous scenery in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

On our Summer 2020 RV Road Trip, following our time in Columbus, Ohio, our family traveled to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Known for the 22 mile stretch of the Cuyahoga Valley River that it runs along, and the various valley lushness found alongside, we found such goodness there.

On our first day in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, we hiked the Ledges, a gorgeous stretch of trail alongside moss-covered rock and crevice. We spent the late afternoon swimming at our campground, and grilled dinner outside that evening.

The next day, Justin had a conference call all morning, so the kids and I spent our time biking the tow-path, one of the landmarks of the park, which followed the railroad through the forest and alongside the river. At Ira, we spotted fish, water snakes, and many, many frogs. We also made a noteworthy stop at a local farm stand for some snacks, and biked back to meet Justin before heading into Akron for some fabulous cheeseburgers at Swensen’s, recommended by a college friend of ours from the area.

Cuyahoga Valley was a fabulous stop on our trip!
