It is now becoming quite clear that our family has a special affinity for small towns, and the small towns in Colorado have been especially good to us on this Summer adventure.
When assessing where to stay in the Denver area during our visit to Colorado, it has become clear that RV campgrounds in Denver are few and far between. In my research, I came across a highly recommended campground in Golden, Colorado, and, after seeing that the proximity to the people we’d be seeing while in town was comfortable, we decided that the Clear Creek RV Park would be a wonderful destination for us while in the Denver area.
Our family would fall in LOVE with Golden, Colorado.
First off, the Clear Creek RV Park is perfectly located on the side of the creek, clearly one of the most adored characteristics of this area. People walk up and down the paved path that runs along the river with inter tubes in hand, tubing down in the water time after time. The path along the river, which you can also bike or run on, was 5 steps from the door of our motorhome.
Our family especially enjoyed renting inter-tubes from Adventure West Outfitters in town, and walking with the tubes about 20 minutes up the river to enjoy several rides down. Keep in mind that the river is FAST, and they recommend this journey for kids ages 10 and up. They did let us bring Quinn, but had him ride in a double tube each time with one adult, and gave us a special safety talk about how to maneuver in the rapids effectively with a smaller child. We all also work lifejackets and helmets. Our time on the river was a highlight for all of us.
In addition to the river, the town of Golden has a quaint, outdoorsy vibe, and a charming downtown main street with shops and restaurants. We were so glad to be able to experience this wonderful town, and would love to return at some point in the future!
