Day Trip With Kids To The Grand Canyon, South Rim

Exploring the South Rim of the Grand Canyon With Your Family

At 1 mile deep and 18 miles wide, Grand Canyon National Park is more than deserving of its name. Viewing this incredible gash in the earth from either rim, the North Rim or the South Rim, is must-do, as the scale and magnitude is incredibly difficult to grasp until you have seen it firsthand. The North Rim is notorious for being more forested, while the South Rim is more exposed and developed. The Colorado River will appear minuscule from either vantage point, yet it was the force of this waterway that carved this incredible valley.

During our New Year’s 2021 RV Trip, our family had the opportunity to visit the South Rim of the Grand Canyon while driving through Arizona on our way back west. We had visited the North Rim during our Summer of 2019 RV Road Trip and loved our time there, but thought that a visit to the Grand Canyon in the winter would truly be just that, GRAND. And, was it ever!

The Grand Canyon is truly GRAND in every sense of the word.

We arrived at the South Rim Visitor Center, and immediately set off to explore and hike the Rim Trail. Our first glimpse of the canyon was enough to take our breath away, the snow having left a light “dusting” covering the rocks. The kids exclaimed that it looked “like they dusted powdered sugar all over it.” We all had a magical time taking in the sights of the canyon and enjoying the wonder of the park in the snow. This visit truly gave us an amazing appreciation for the beauty of the Grand Canyon in the winter, a remarkable sight.
