Gateway Arch National Park Pitstop, Missouri

Visiting the Gateway Arch With Your Family

St. Louis Missouri’s Gateway Arch was founded by the National Park Service in 1935 to commemorate Thomas Jefferson’s vision of a transcontinental United States. This national park, seated on the edge of the Mississippi River, still stands as a reminder of the pioneering spirit of this time, and is a “must see” for any visitor in the St. Louis area. The iconic shape of the arch, created by engineer Eero Saarinen, is awe-inspiring, the tallest monument in the United States.

Prepare to be in AWE when visiting the Gateway Arch.

Following our time in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky on our Summer 2020 RV Road Trip, we drove to St. Louis, Missouri. Our first order of business was to visit the Gateway Arch, one the newest National Parks in the United States. Justin and I had both visited the Arch before, but we were excited to share this unique landmark with our kids for the first time.

Because of the COVID pandemic that summer, we were not able to ride the elevator to the top of the Arch, but we all really enjoyed the Visitor Center and Museum. Our family felt that the Museum offered an incredible hands-on learning experience for all ages.

While in St. Louis, we also thoroughly enjoyed seeing some dear friends, feasting on some awesome St. Louis BBQ for dinner, and enjoying the fabulous St. Louis mainstay, Ted Drewes, for frozen custard. Incredible!  Thank you for a fabulous visit, St. Louis!
